been definitively informed by the Deputy Master that he

is unable to undertake any coinages on behalf of the Colony

during the present year.

to make arrangements to deliver $350,000 fortnightly if further orders making a total up to $4,000,000 or $5,000,000

be entrusted to them at once.

3 on the nominal value reckoning the dollar at 4/- with a discount of 24 on the amount of each Invoice, which are

the best terms we have been able to secure.

The placing of the order as desired by the Birmingham Mint will, however, of course involve the imme- diate purchase of large quantities of silver and as

the can-

cellation of the order, if subsequently desired at any time

by the Colonial Government, would be difficult if not impos- sible, we think it better to ask the authority of the Secretary of State before finally concluding the matter.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your Obedient Servant,
